The last couple weeks 2 & 3 were really good. I observed surgeries, did some scanning on my own and am finally getting more confident again. I can understand the office programs and can somewhat get patients around the hospital without sending them to the information desk. I had a handful of interesting studies which make the day go by faster. However, being able to slowly due more also moves the day along much faster than previous weeks.
I saw many different kinds of stents in the surgeries. I was aware there were different kinds of EVAR (endovascular aneurysm repair) stents; however, I didn’t know the reps were in the surgeries. They help the Dr. with opening the packages and finding the correct size. They also make a specific custom plan for the pt and the Dr. looks it over and if they see fit follow the plan. One EVAR used a polymer, I didn’t know anything besides wire could be used. It was interesting to see that surgery be preformed. Lastly, I also learned that one type of stent in not put directly inferior to the renal arteries, most stents are. The stent I learned about sits on top of the iliac bifurcation and has no wiring to keep it in place because it just sits on the bifurcation so it will not get displaced like the more traditional stents.
