I have to preface this post with a disclaimer: I am not trying to say anything bad about my school I am just stating what I have observed and been told personally.
Restrooms and Showers
After being in the dorms for a few days I discovered quite a bit of very important things. Some of this may be a no-brainer to students who have already lived in dorms. However, this is my first year doing so. In fact, I have been here only a week and a half. This may be a no-brainer to students who have already lived in dorms. Since moving in I have found out that we only have three showers, four sinks, and three toilets for my hall. My hall has 7 room so roughly 14 girls (give or take because I think one or two are singles but I could be wrong). This may be the normal facilities to student ratio; however, I think it is too low.
I got into the restroom portion of the bathroom and found out one sink always leaks non-stop, one sink had brown water come out of it (Yes, it was a one-time thing and I asked about it- “it will not happen again,” I was told- but I’m still not going to use it unless I have too). In addition one of the toilets needs to be flushed in a circle. This alone is interesting enough. You can’t just press down or it doesn’t work.
Lastly, in the showers, the water pressure is way to hard-it almost hurts. Actually, I take that back it does hurt it makes me not want to take a shower; or when I do it is the faster shower ever.
All in all, it wasn’t what I was imagining it to be but it could be worse. On the bright side, I told someone and they showed me how to file a maintenance request. Therefore, most if not all of these should be fixed fairly soon.
Dorm Room
When I walked up to the building I thought it cool be newer. However, then I got to my room and started to put stuff in. Then I realized that this res hall was, lets just say, not newly updated. However, it does look like the typical res halls in dorm rooms. Therefore, I would be missing out on the college experience if it didn’t look like this- right?
Update
After being here for two weeks I have figured it out! I know the good showers, sinks, etc. In addition, facilities fixed almost all the problems. I also found out there are only 12 girls on my floor so I have never seen anyone in the restroom yet so that’s great.
So, the advice I will give to everyone is do not overreact. Everything will be okay! In fact, for me, it was better than I expected. I thought I would have to have way more girls on my floor.
It may seem stressful in the beginning but everything will work out for the best! … Except for my desk drawer as I’m writing this. It keeps opening and hitting me in the leg. The desk must be slanted! However, it is just going to take some getting used to- and possibly a heavy object in front of it to prevent it from opening.
